Introducing the Flopsy Bunny 50p Coin
First announced in 2016, the Royal Mint celebrated Beatrix Potter’s 150th birthday with a series of five special coins featuring characters from her beloved stories. Due to their popularity, the following year brought a new set of coins with presenting more of Beatrix’s wonderful characters. For 2018, the third series of the Beatrix Potter coins features Flopsy Bunny among three new characters.
Flopsy Bunny is Peter Rabbit’s sister and wife to Benjamin Bunny (who was featured in 2017’s coin series). The little bunny was introduced in the story “The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies,” where Flopsy and Benjamin’s six children get caught by Mr McGregor after falling asleep in his garden.

The coin’s design features Flopsy’s iconic cape in brilliant uncirculated finish. The fold-out case shows Beatrix’s Flopsy illustration in full colour along with other fun facts and illustrations from the story. Flopsy Bunny is designed by Emma Noble and the obverse has Jody Clark’s fifth definitive portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

How Much is a Flopsy Bunny 50p Worth?
Since the Royal Mint has not released the mintage figure for the BU version of the coin, we can’t say for certain how rare the coin will be in the future. As of 2019, on eBay, the highest price paid for a single BU coin was £10.
Other Versions of the Flopsy Bunny Coins
There is the common circulation version of the Flopsy Bunny 50p, in base metal. (The mintage figure has not been released.) There is also the Silver Proof 50p with colour printing version, with an estimated 45,000 released.
Other Beatrix Potter Coins
As of 2019, the Royal Mint has released 13 other 50p coins to celebrate the British author. For the 2018 Beatrix Potter 50p collection, along with Flopsy Bunny, fans can also get Mrs Tittlemouse, the mouse from the Tailor of Gloucester, and a new 50p design for 2018 of Peter Rabbit.
