Introducing the 2018 Peter Rabbit 50p Coin
To celebrate the 150th birthday of gifted author and illustrator Beatrix Potter in 2016, the Royal Mint struck five beautiful coins, much to the delight of coin collectors everywhere. Every year since then, a new set has been released, each with a special version of Peter Rabbit, Beatrix’s beloved mischievous rabbit. 2018 presents Peter Rabbit happily munching on radishes, the reason why he was nearly caught by Mr McGregor in his story, ‘The Tale of Peter Rabbit.’
2018 Peter Rabbit 50p Coin
Adoring fans will love to see the little details of Peter’s blissful expression highlighted by the Brilliant Uncirculated standard finish. The coin comes in an informative fold-out case, presenting the coin among Beatrix’s other illustrations as well as facts and excerpts from Peter’s story. This third Peter Rabbit coin was designed by Emma Noble, the artist behind all of the Beatrix Potter coins. The obverse displays the fifth definitive portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark.
How Much is a 2018 Peter Rabbit 50p Worth?
The Royal Mint has not yet released the mintage figures for the Brilliant Uncirculated version of the 2018 Peter Rabbit 50p, so it’s difficult to give an estimate of the future worth. On eBay, the highest price for a single uncirculated coin was £250. It did not come in its original packaging.
Other Versions of the Peter Rabbit Coins
The 2018 Peter Rabbit 50p was also released into public circulation. There are also Silver Proof with colour printing (mintage 45,000) and Gold Proof (mintage 450).
As Beatrix Potter’s most well-known character, the Royal Mint has released a different design to celebrate Peter Rabbit since 2016. That year had a portrait version of Peter while 2017 had Peter Rabbit moving to the right side of the coin, his fluffy tail on display. And as 2019’s only Beatrix Potter coin, the 50p featured Peter Rabbit standing, holding a handkerchief.
Other Beatrix Potter Coins
Since 2016, the Royal Mint has been released Beatrix Potter 50p coins for a current total of 14 coins. (Beatrix Potter fans can read more about the entire collection in our guide.) Joining Peter Rabbit in the 2018 series are fellow characters Flopsy Bunny, Mrs Tittlemouse, and one of the mice from The Tailor of Gloucester.
