Introducing the Jemima Puddle-Duck 50p Coin
To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter’s birth, the Royal Mint released a special collection of five coins featuring characters from her adored tales. Jemima Puddle-Duck is the third to be released. Jemima Puddle-Duck is in Beatrix’s twelfth story, “The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck”, where the domestic duck struggles to find a hidden and safe place to lay her eggs. She gets persuaded by a wily fox to lay her eggs in his shed, without realising his true intentions of eating her and her eggs. She’s saved at the last moment by a farm collie who saw through the fox’s plan immediately.
Jemima Puddle-Duck 50p 2016
The Jemima Puddle-Duck 50p coin is designed by Emma Noble and features the trusting duck in her poke bonnet and shawl. The coin is minted to Brilliant Uncirculated standard and presented in a fold-out booklet which includes some of Beatrix’s illustrations and facts and quotes from Jemima’s story. It’s a perfect gift for coin collectors and any Beatrix Potter fans.

How Much Is the Jemima Puddle-Duck 50p Worth?
Because of its low mintage of 2.1 million, the Jemima Puddle-Duck 50p is the hardest Beatrix Potter coin to get. The BU version has a mintage of 55,000. Despite the low mintage value, a single BU Jemima Puddle-Duck coin has only gone for £24.85, the highest on eBay as of the end of the March 2019.
Other Jemima Puddle-Duck Coins
There are other versions of the Jemima Puddle-Duck 50p. You can get her as a Silver Proof coin with colour-printing. There are also variations in packaging, with the BU coins sold in tubes and a special joint presentation with the Royal Mail, displaying the 50p with the special Jemima Puddle-Duck stamp.
Other Beatrix Potter Coins
If you already have all of the coins in the 2016 Beatrix Potter 50p series, there are still more to find! In 2017, 2018, and 2019, the Royal Mint released more characters from Beatrix’s stories. See if you can find Mr Jeremy Fisher or Mrs Tittlemouse!
