Introducing the Peter Rabbit 2019 Silver Proof Coin
In 2016, the Royal Mint released five coins in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter. The 2016 50p series included Peter Rabbit, Beatrix’s most well-known and beloved character. He was the hero of her first story, ‘The Tale of Peter Rabbit’ and readers followed him as he dared to enter Mr McGregor’s garden, just to get some radishes. Since then, there has been a new Peter Rabbit design included every year as part of a growing lineup of Beatrix’s characters. However, the 2019 50p coin is special because the adorable rabbit returned alone, not part of any Beatrix Potter series.
Peter Rabbit 2019 50p
This year’s design, by Emma Noble, features Peter standing upright in his coat, holding his handkerchief. It’s minted on .925 sterling silver finished to Proof standard with the special addition of colour printing. This coloured coin brings another layer of quality and brings out the fine details of Emma Noble’s engraving.
It comes with a fold-out presentation folder detailing facts about Beatrix Potter’s life and quotes from Peter Rabbit’s story. The coin itself is protected and can be proudly displayed in its clear acrylic case.

How Much is the Peter Rabbit Silver Proof 50p Coin Worth?
The Peter Rabbit Silver Proof coin was minted only 30,000 times. As such, prices for the coin are much higher than its face value. On eBay, as of 2019, the highest price for a 2019 Peter Rabbit Silver Proof 50p was £124.99. It was unopened in its limited edition packaging and came with a certificate of authenticity.
Other Versions of the Peter Rabbit 50p Coin
Unlike other Peter Rabbit coins, the 2019 Peter Rabbit 50p was only minted as a commemorative coin and not released into circulation. So there are no general circulation mintages. However, there is the Brilliant Uncirculated version and the Gold Proof version, mintage of 500.
As mentioned earlier there are other Peter Rabbit designs from past years as well. The 2016 portrayed his bust portrait while the 2017 Peter Rabbit 50p had him in mid-movement, moving to the right side of the coin. The 2018 version showed Peter Rabbit enjoying Mr McGregor’s delicious radishes.
