The half crown is one of the most well known denominations of British money from the past. It was most notably one of the pre-decimal coins alongside the farthings, penny's, half-penny's, shillings, crowns and half a crown - the half crown. The half crown was first issued back in the 14th century and was only discontinued in 1970 as the Britain moved over to the decimal system. As they've been around in one form or another, it's needless to say they can be worth a lot of money and are extremely collectible.
£110 to £4950 is the price range that we have within our inventory of 180 half crown coins.
Half a crown was worth two shillings and sixpence which is worth 12.5p in modern day decimal currency. It's not worth anything to a bank but it could be worth far more to a collector. Older half crown coins can contain silver and gold too. As mentioned our most expensive half crown coin is £4950.
It went out of circulation in 1970 with the introduction of decimal coins.
