Half Crown Coin

Introduction:

The half crown is one of the most well known denominations of British money from the past. It was most notably one of the pre-decimal coins alongside the farthings, penny's, half-penny's, shillings, crowns and half a crown - the half crown. The half crown was first issued back in the 14th century and was only discontinued in 1970 as the Britain moved over to the decimal system. As they've been around in one form or another, it's needless to say they can be worth a lot of money and are extremely collectible.

Half Crown Detailed:

The half crown was a coin used in the United Kingdom between 1549 and 1971. It was worth two shillings and sixpence, or half of a crown, and was equal to one-eighth of a pound. The half crown was made of silver until 1947, when it was changed to a cupro-nickel alloy.

The half crown was a popular coin in the UK, and was used for everyday transactions such as purchasing goods and services. It was also used as a unit of currency in other countries, including some parts of the British Empire.

The design of the half crown varied over the years, with different monarchs and designs being featured on the coin. The obverse side of the coin typically featured a portrait of the reigning monarch, while the reverse side featured a design that varied depending on the era in which the coin was minted.

The half crown was phased out in 1971, when the UK switched to a decimal currency system and the coin was no longer produced. It is now considered a collectible item and may be worth more than its face value to collectors.
